Sneak Previews

Lately, I've been completely inspired to create!
These are teaser photos of boards to come.

Some finished, some still in the works (R & D).
Complete photos and reviews are still to come....

Board #1 features a custom stringer built for Hoyte Designs exclusively.
Notice that the tape indicates where the wood stringer stops; the lighter line just being glue.

Purpose: Flex Tail

Board #2: This feature is a fluted wing.

Purpose: To channel water down the rail line and give holding power in critical turns.

Board #3: Features a concave bottom.

Purpose: lift and speed.

Board #4: Hand shaping this for one of the top women surfers in the world.

Purpose: Girls just wanna have fun!

Van Go!-gh Justice

Anyone guess what this is?

If you guessed the floor of a glassing room....you're right!

Try doing this on a canvas!
Paint and Pigment combo.

Our oldest daughter is an aspiring artist.

The greatest (and scariest) thing about kids is they want to do everything you do!

Bring your daughter to work day!

This is a lot more fun than finger-painting in grade school!

(Anyone notice she's wearing a trash bag:)

As soon as this paint dries, we are going to hand paint black pinlines which creates a clear separation of color from white foam.

Now ready for laminating....the first step to glassing a board.

Go Fish!

 Meet Rhode Island's Rincon!

Here are some photos, our friend Andrew Fish sent us of him surfing a Fish....we know....ironic:)

We first met him two summers ago in Santa Barbara. He started surfing during childhood summers on Martha's Vineyard and has traveled the East coast, Australia, New Zealand, Costa Rica and Ecuador....

These were taken during Hurricane Igor and he's riding a Hoyte 'Double-Down' Fish.

This Fish is hooked!

Fundraiser with a view!

On Sunday afternoon, Russ and I got to attend a Western-themed fundraiser that we had donated a board towards.

But the best part.....it was on the hills above Rincon - Queen of the Coast.
We got to watch the surf while watching the live auction.
(Please note all photos taken with IPhone....therefore what ya see is what ya get. No telephoto lens:)

Hello? Gorgeous!

A 5'10 High Performance Thruster.
Some lucky kid's parents scored it for him. He was stoked!

Tomorrow

Sorry, we can't download photos tonight.
(Blogspot is working on their site)

And what would a surfboard website be without photos?
Bore-ring!

Blog will be up and running tomorrow morning.
Thanks and good night friends!

QXS (Quick X-eleration Stick)

This QXS (shaped for Daniel Jones) has a gradual entry rocker with a single concave, starting just in front of the front foot, going into a double concave Vee exiting at the center fin.
In land-lubber speak, this means Quick N' Easy!

This particular one has a  4C-3H.
Again, land-lubbers, this means Four Channel, Tri-Hull.
In other words, "I feel the need, the need for speed!"

(Quote that movie for a bar of wax, redeemable at your nearest surf shop and tell em' to "put it on my tab.....put it on my tab." Quote that movie too. For a quick escort out the front door!)

:) Happy Saturday everyone!

Go Giants! Top of the 8th. 3-2. Real Time.

Orlo in Mexico!

Orlo in Mexico!

"...here is a fuzzy frame grab sent to me by the Mexican kid who filmed (I have some footage). I was able to really lay that board over into a bottom turn and pick a spot to hit.

Thanks again... super fun."

Orlo promised us some better photos so we'll post those when we get them.

Keep the photos and comments coming!

Resin-X

Firstly, I just wanted to share how beautiful Ventura is in a thunderstorm.
Check out the rain coming across the ocean.
If my IPhone could have predicted the crazy lightening strikes you would see those too.

The reason for todays blog is to boast of Resin-X again.
(We are not owners of Resin-X, nor do we have shares in the company. Nor are we paid to advertise:)
We just know it's a cutting edge, revolutionary product.
Therefore, we use it.
And not just on surfboards....
On an earlier post, we explained how we're using it on some table for a local restaurant.

Here Russell is brushing on Resin-X as a sealer. This particular application will be three to four coats.

Here he's applying a new product from Resin-X called UV H2O.
It is a protector that keeps the paint and tables from reacting in the sun.

Here Russell sprays UV H2O rather than adding the extra weight of a Resin Gloss.

Happy  Wednesday.
But...where's my pint?

Baseball and Surfing

We're big baseball fans and because the Rangers are in the post-season playoffs we've decided to stick with the Texans for a moment.....

Somewhere, right now, this wave is breaking....perfect left.
Peeling.
No one out.
Bottom of the 9th.

Oops, I digress.

Hold that thought.....

Here's Gabe pinch hittin' on a Hoyte.

A solid slot to left field......

These photos are courtesy of Billy Blues, G-Town.
Thank you and keep em' coming.

Surfing the Gulf!

Riding a Hoyte board?
Send us your photos.....no matter where you are!!

Ever think ya'd see this in Texas??
No oil here!
The only slick thing ya'll see here is this.....

Galveston, Texas.
It's hot, it's humid and it's got surf!!!
Some of these guys paddle out almost every day.

This is Gabe.
He's riding an RX-3.
Probably the most versatile board Russ shapes.
For the most part, he chooses to send this as an opener board for surfers who eventually want multiple boards.
It's a good barometer to tell what surfers preferences are.

This is Kyle.
Also riding an RX-3.

Go Texas!
I'll take my stetson off for ya!

Happy Monday everyone!

Russell's Lil' Darlin'

Let me introduce you to Russell's Lil' Darlin'....
And it's not me...:)

Firstly, Russ's motivation was to make a board that paddles well.
A functional, maneuverable  mini-longboard.

This is the Lil' Darlin' XP (Extra Performance).

It has a single concave nose, starting at the tip running into a double concave V with bonzer channels and bonzer fins.

This board is extremely fast and loose with positive drive and has the ability to cheater five the nose!:)

Good surfers will even be able to hang-ten on this at around 7'6.

Check out the pics.

Resin artwork done by Russ too.

Happy weekend everyone. Stay safe.

DJ Russell (Hoyte)

Russell moonlights as a DJ.
Not.

This is a video of Daniel riding the board I talked about on yesterdays blog.

**        http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DPVftUltYfQ     **

Enjoy.

And this is my favorite photo for the week!

He's a skippy little Kiwi sheep.
He just heard that Raglan is firing and he's stoked!
I want to bring him home.

Happy Friday.

Daniel Jones

These are photos Daniel Jones sent us a while back. We really like him.
He's a great customer and a really nice guy.

...sorry Daniel if that ruins your rep but you really are a nice guy. A gentleman. Your mama should be proud.

Him and a buddy of his were enjoying Russ's backyard BBQ last year when I almost! stood on a large snake while picking lemons.
I screamed like a girl (appropriate for me I would say).
And he didn't laugh at me.
At least, not on the outside.

Thanks Daniel. You're alright in my book.
If you'd have laughed at me I would have stopped serving you beer.....maybe deep down you knew that.

Anyway, enjoy these photos.
I think they're fabulous.

This is an RX3, low entry with single concave and accelerated tail rocker.
And Daniel makes it look easy!

Cirque du Soleil - Hawaiin style!

Happy Thursday everyone!

Miracles, Habits and Digression

It would be impossible to write tonight without mentioning how spectacular it was to watch the miners be raised, from the dark, underground cave they had involuntarily lived in for more than two months, into the light of day.....not only alive, but well!!
A miracle.
Mind over matter. Hope over despair. Faith over circumstance.
And, how great was it to watch GOOD news coming from the media networks...?
Global Joy:)

After writing this blog each day, I always post in onto Facebook.
And each day I count the number of days I have been doing this.
(today is day 9 by the way)
Last night Russ asked why I do that and I reminded him that I had heard it takes 21 days to form a habit.....
So, here's to 11 more consecutive days!!
After this becomes a habit, I will see what other habits I can start.....or end:) Maybe.

This is a photo of a surfboard Russ shaped a couple of years ago. It's lying on our front lawn in front of our cute house. Our good friend visited the other day and said our house is a 'Californian Bungalow.' I liked that. I like living in a Californian Bungalow.
I also like the fact that it takes two minutes to drive to the beach.
I also like that I can drive home in my wetsuit *gross* and hop straight into the shower that's in the cute bathroom in our Californian Bungalow.

Californian Bungalow - try saying that fast three times.

 I digress.

Whats unique about this board is that Russell glassed it with a Kavalar/Graphite blend. Cool.
And strong.

Just thought I'd share that with you.

Grateful for the 33!
Happy Wednesday.
Peace.
Out.

Throwing Buckets

We are always excited and grateful to get photos from friends and surfers riding Hoyte boards.
Daniel Jones hooked us up with Cole Mason, a good friend of his from North Shore, Oahu. Cole ordered this board and has since ordered two more.  We always love it when the first boards shaped for a customer work exactly the way they like!! Daniel is paddling into the next wave of this set.

Cole Mason throwing buckets on the North Shore.

*wait the 15 seconds for the ads to complete and then scroll through to photos 2 and 4*
Check out these photos.....taken in Indo of Daniel and Keoni Jones riding our boards.
Thanks Daniel for the hook-up and the great feed back guys. We always appreciate it.

Racing Stripes

I went down to the factory today to watch Russ work and got to see him finishing off an airbrush he was doing on an EPS/Epoxy Resin-X fish.
I love the moment the painters tape and brown paper are peeled back, revealing the airbrushers vision.

So join me now....

Slowly peeling back the tape.....ya don't wanna scrape the paint with your nail....
Slowly now.....pull the tape back over itself, following the lines, to prevent pulling off paint...
Aaaahh.....quad fish revealed...

Red on black, OK Jack.....Red on yellow....kill a fellow....this is a killer Fish!
